The Ultimate Secret 4 Ways To Pick High Quality Watches

When it comes to choosing watches, there are so many options, from different brands to different movement types. And everyone has their own taste in design and style, so we just say what the signs of a high quality watch are in general but not say which watch you should choose.

1. The Dial Window Material Type

It is the covering of the watch dial. Acrylic, mineral, and sapphire are the three types of crystals commonly used in watches.

Acrylic crystal is an inexpensive plastic that allows shallow scratches to be buffed out.

Mineral crystal is composed of several elements that are heat-treated to create an unusual hardness that helps resist scratches.

Sapphire is the most expensive and durable crystal, approximately three times harder than mineral crystals and 20 times harder than acrylic crystals.

There is one major benefit of owning a sapphire crystal watch versus a mineral glass watch: Sapphire crystal doesn't scratch easily. But you should know that it's harder to manufacturer and, therefore, more expensive.

That's why you don't see it on many affordable watches.

2. The Movement

Movement is the power source for the watches, and it's often the main selling point or justification for the price of watches. Watches use three basic movement types: Automatic, quartz, and mechanical.

Battery movement utilizes batteries as the only source of power. Quartz movement runs when the power of a battery is sent through the quartz on the inside of the watch. So, the Battery movement watch is not always a quartz watch, but the quartz watch does have battery.

Mechanical movement relies on the wearer winding the elements, which is either manual or automatic. The passage of time on a mechanical movement watch is measured by a spring-driven mechanism. The spring (also called a mainspring), needs to be wound periodically.

The requirements for the movement of mechanical watches are relatively high. Swiss, ETA or Japanese movement may not be much matter when it comes to quartz (i.e., battery powered) watches. That said you can love Japanese movement watches for one another reason.

Often referred to as self-winding, an automatic watch is a mechanical watch that harnesses kinetic energy from the natural motion of the wearer's wrist.  The mainspring is automatically wound from the natural movements of the wearer's wrist. Manual winding is not required

3. The materials of the band

The most common choices are metals, leather, or rubber. Look for a watchband that is adjustable and durable.

Some materials are naturally more durable than others. Stainless steel compared to ‘normal’ steel can not be affected by moisture and perspiration.

Also, getting skin irritation is rare with an stainless steel watch. Furthermore, a PVD coating is important to ensure that a watch reserves its color. A watch without coating may discolor within a year by frequent use.

Full grain leather ages nicely and is the most durable. It's unlikely to rip or disintegrate in the same way that lower quality straps will. Most leather bands are made of top grain and genuine leather.

If you're paying a pretty penny for a watch, it would be worthwhile to check what quality of leather you are paying for.

There are also more unconventional band materials that you can choose from, like woven fabric, Nylon or a durable rubber, which may much more fit for sport.

4. The water resistance of the watch

10 ATM water resistance means that the watch is resistant to 100 meters (or 10 bar) pressure. This makes it a good watch for swimming. 5 ATM (showering) and 3 ATM (washing hands) are also water resistance degrees.

A watch must be at least 3 ATM waterproof to offer some comfort. Also, water resistance is often indicated on the back of the watch.
